The Third Generation portion of the Robotech Novels by Jack McKinney focus around the Third Robotech War, and culminate with the battle of Reflex Point in the Book 12, The Symphony of Light.

Book 10: Invid Invasion starts with the arrival and destruction of the REF Mars Division Fleet in Earth Orbit, with Scott Bernard being the only survivor of the failed attempt, and ends with the Death of Johnathon Wolfe.

Book 11: Metamophosis details (through Rand's eyes) the Genesis Pit, and end with the battle surrounding the mental discussion between Ariel/Marlene and Sera on the tropical Island.

Book 12: Symphony of Light begins with the first mountain battle between the Robotech Rebels and Sera and Corg and continues right up until the end of the series.

All three books are pretty good, and they don't go into the "five-year" fold of the SDF-3, keeps the thinking cap references and the "Protoculture Shapings" to a bare minimum in the book. I do recommend if you read the novels, unless you are a "Robotech Purist".
